Greece produces some of
the world’s best honey.

Between ideal climate conditions (think long, dry, hot summers and mild winters) and the rich biodiversity of the land, the resulting honey is unmatched in flavor, texture, and nutritional benefits. Did you know that Greece is home to many indigenous plants and herbs that can’t be found anywhere else? It’s true!

Distinct from the more common blossom honey, portoula honey is forest honey, produced when bees collect secretions from the bark of certain tree species. Forest honey varieties are higher in minerals, and rich in antioxidants and flavonoids.

Portoula honey is produced especially for us by a 4th generation beekeeper from Akovos, our family’s village in the Arcadian mountains of Greece. Meticulous about his hives, our beekeeper practices nomadic beekeeping – moving hives as needed to optimize climate and vegetation conditions for his beloved bees. This is a very labor intensive method is practiced by only the most dedicated of beekeepers.

Our honey is gently extracted from the hives using centrifugal force and never heated, retaining the raw and beautifully unfiltered characteristics of true artisanal honey. Single estate means we never mix our product with honey from other producers. So you get a premium product to enjoy and to gift, while also supporting sustainable apiculture.

Portoula honey is produced with love and the deepest respect for the environment.
