If all the mundane moments of our days were little celebrations, couldn’t that be life-changing?

We think so. You’re going to get dressed each day, so why not put on something that makes you feel luminous? And if you’re going to put honey on your yogurt, shouldn’t that honey be an immersive sensory experience?

Portoula is a magical little door behind which lie treasures from Greece – a place whose history and beauty awaken the senses and remind us that there’s more to life than increasing its speed. Ours are products infused with the passion and singularity of the human hearts, minds, and hands that wrought them. Things that bear witness to lives devoted to making, they are the irresistible artifacts of human capacity.

So…are we specialty foods? Yep. Are we apparel and accessories? Sure! Are we housewares? Why not?! Quite simply, ours is a collection of the kinds of things you use every day, but with a superlative lovability that demands a moment’s pause; to experience, to savor, and to celebrate.

Have I got something to show you!

The name portoula, or “little door”, was inspired by the curiously tiny doors that captivated me as a young girl in our small Greek village…

…and the brightly colored doors that punctuate the Greek island streetscape. Each one unique and utterly enchanting, they seem to beckon; to invite you in, to look closer and appreciate.

The same is true of shopping in Greece. Everywhere from outdoor markets to boutiques and galleries, I am captivated: by a hand-embroidered detail to run my fingers across, exquisite textile designs, organically shaped pottery, the feeling of pure Greek cotton, or the taste of a carefully preserved summer fruit. Each elicits an arresting sensory response that can’t be forgotten.

Greece truly leaves an imprint on the soul for which there are no words, so I created portoula to show you. My sheer delight in discovering each of these treasures is rivaled only by the joy it gives me to bring it to you. And just like Greece, which never fails in finding new ways to capture my heart, our ever-evolving collection will reward you for returning again and again!
